Hi my name is Ris and I'm from Omaha, Nebraska! I'm a junior this year and would like to go to maybe California or Massachusetts for college :) My favorite color is green and my favorite songs currently are "The Way I Loved You" (Taylor's Version!!) and "Diamond Eyes" by Deftones. In my free time, I love to go to the gym, read and write, as well as hang out with friends!! I think I've had a lot of moments in my life that have led me up to this very moment. In elementary, I was a quiet kid. I wasn't very outspoken but instead passive and shy. I tried to find my space in middle school by integrating into the more popular crowd but that wasn't for me either (big character development moment in 7th grade). During that time was when I learned to stop being a people pleaser and live more for myself. Now in high school, I'm a varsity cheerleader, I'm on powerlifting, student council, and a teen advisory board for Lavender Lab-- all things I very much enjoy being a part of! This is just a sum-up though, I'll definitely go more in depth with my self-discovery journey in my future blogs :) My favorite experience with Girlhood is being able to experience all the positions and what they entailed. I love taking on all the challenges of each role and working with all the girls to do what we do; it's awesome knowing the positive impact we have on people around the world. I look forward to continuing to spreading our message within the community and just about anyone we can reach! Now, as an avid literature fanatic, my favorite book is "Across a Star-Swept Sea" by Diana Peterfreund for the quality of female empowerment that is present in her novel. The main protagonist is only 16-17 years old, yet carries herself in a way I aspire to be able to do someday. This book contains one of my favorite quotes: “Sometimes it's only the young ones who are crazy enough to change the world.” Things do get tough in life and the world isn't perfect right now either. I'd like to leave off on the note that whatever we desire to achieve, we can achieve. We just gotta have a little faith in ourselves and take it one step at a time. For me right now, that's through Girlhood. How about you? From our hearts, Arisa <3
