♫ᝰ My Favorite Songs ᝰ♫
By Mia Sugimoto ♡
Have you ever heard a song that is so good, you have to shut your eyes? While you close them, it feels like you are sent to another dimension, and you start levitating a little. Music is like therapy– it evokes a feeling that can’t be found anywhere else.
I swear, before I could walk, I could see music notes. I fell in love with it: I took on singing, dancing, and musical theater. I learned how to read sheets, and started to play every instrument I could find. If there were music, I would follow the sound to wherever it led me.
I’ve compiled a list of songs that have carried with me throughout my life. Some of them are recently found, as others are from the recorded voice memos on my first phone.
I hope you love them as much as I do.
When I say this is my favorite song, it really means that I would play this if I had 3 minutes and 16 seconds to live. I used to play it every single day, multiple times. If you ask any of my friends, they would probably say they hate this song. It’s definitely because of me.
This song is just magical, my replay button on Spotify is tired of me. It encapsulates the meaning of August perfectly well– The end of summer slipping away, and your summer love as well. When I listen to the song, I think of The Notebook. Bittersweet.
I remember listening to Cigarette Daydreams on the bus to my middle school. I can still smell the metallic scent of the rain when it plays. I remember wishing to be 17, like in the song, so I could drive. Instead, I had to take the bus that passed by my house 3 times before dropping me off.
I would tell you the whole plot of this album by memorization, but I would have to meet you in person to do that. Self-control has the perfect melody and lyrics to capture the topic of growing up. The high-pitched vocals show the difference between pure innocence and being mature, which is his actual voice. Frank Ocean is a musical genius, but that is a rant for another time.
I heard this song live. I sobbed the whole time. Zach Bryan’s voice is so raw and real, I cannot help but tear up when I hear one of his songs. When you listen to Highway Boys, you can picture a road trip with all your friends, and the memories that you create. This song makes me want to run away and hit the road. If you never hear from me again, you already know why.
If you use Spotify, here is a link to my account :). I love you all. - Mia Sugimoto ♡
