Going Above and Beyond For the Holidays
Picture this: while most of us are relaxing with family and friends during the holidays, there's a group of people out there who are on the grind, taking care of someone else's family member. Yep, we're talking about healthcare workers, and more specifically my role as a Certified Nursing Aide! I choose to give up my holiday fun to make sure others are okay.
Every year, CNAs choose to be at the hospital or nursing home instead of partying it up with friends and family. They do it because they’re caring and have a crazy-strong sense of responsibility. They want to make sure people get the care and support they need, even if it means missing out on their own holiday plans.
Imagine being at work on New Year's Eve, watching the countdown on your phone while you're checking in on patients. The ball drops, and the world goes wild, but you're there, doing your thing. Or how about working on the Fourth of July, when the sky's exploding with fireworks, but you're stuck inside making sure everyone's good? Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day – you name it, CNAs are there, making sure patients have a shoulder to lean on.
What's great about this is that families of the patients appreciate CNAs more than ever. They know these caregivers are stepping up when it matters most. CNAs become like an extended family for their patients, giving them that extra support and care during the holidays. A lot of families are even kind enough to gift the workers treats such as homemade cookies or chocolates!
CNAs keep choosing to do this work because they know they're making a difference. They're there for those who need them, even if it means missing out on their own holiday fun. It's all about showing compassion and being selfless – and we need more of that in the world.
