✿Futura Free✿
We all have a moment in our head that helps us sleep at night. We imagine buying your friends a new car and your proud parents shaking your hand. This is the sign- you made it.
In Futura Free, Frank Ocean explains his story about following his passion and reaching his dream.
“Play these songs, it's therapy, momma"
"They payin' me, momma"
"I should be payin' them”
As I matured, I wondered what my parents wanted to be when they grew up, their dreams, and if they achieved them in the end.
When I was younger, I wanted to be in various professions. I wanted to be a firefighter, an astronaut, an actress, and an author. It was my dream to save the world and make it a better place.
Now, when adults ask about choosing a major in college, I do not know.
The album, Blonde, is based on the concept of growing up. The album portrays topics that tie in with going through adolescence. At the end of Futura Free, the last song of the album, an interview starts to play. A series of questions are asked to young teens, giving a glimpse of how endearing and sweet youth can be.
“How far is a light year?” is the last question of the interview.
Growing up is a process that every individual has to go through. This summer is my last as a kid, and I can feel myself grow at night. There is no knock on my front door to play outside, I am driving instead of riding my bike, and I work a summer job four times a week. No matter what, I can’t escape the summer going by faster every year.
So, how far is a light year?
“A second.”
